Red en Defensa de los Derechos Digitales, known as R3D, is a Mexican organization that defends human rights in the digital environment.

It works to promote digital rights in Mexico, with a focus on freedom of expression, privacy, access to knowledge and free culture. To do this it combines several tools: policy research, strategic litigation, public advocacy and campaigns. It draws on both legal and communication methods rather than relying on any single approach.

Its team brings together lawyers, researchers, and communication and design staff. Members work on topics such as surveillance, privacy, digital security and freedom of expression online. Some conduct public information requests and analyze government databases, while others produce audiovisual, editorial and graphic material to support the organization’s advocacy. Several team members previously worked at other digital rights and human rights organizations, including international bodies.

The executive director has more than a decade of experience in international human rights work, with a focus on digital rights, freedom of expression, and non-discrimination and gender equality. R3D also has staff dedicated to institutional strengthening, human talent and administration, reflecting an organization built to sustain long term advocacy work. Its published output is released under a Creative Commons license.
