ProSpecieRara

Description

ProSpecieRara is a Swiss foundation that works to preserve the genetic and cultural diversity of traditional crop varieties and farm animal breeds. It was founded in 1982 in St. Gallen. It is headquartered in Basel.

It saves endangered Swiss breeds and traditional crops from extinction, together with a nationwide network of volunteer variety keepers and breeders. It encourages and supports the breeding and cultivation of these traditional animals and crops, helps producers market them, and preserves and shares knowledge about them.

The foundation maintains or supports a network of locations, such as botanical gardens and zoos, where these traditional animals and crops are made accessible to the public. It is a network partner of the European SAVE Foundation.
