Environmental Organizations Mexico

Description

Pronatura Mexico is a Mexican civil society organization working on the conservation and resilience of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Founded in 1981, it is the largest environmental conservation group in Mexico. It is organized as a system of six independent regional chapters, Pronatura A.C., Pronatura Chiapas, Pronatura Noreste, Pronatura Noroeste, Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan, and Pronatura Veracruz, which together give it a national reach across the country’s states.

Its mission is to build resilience in priority ecosystems together with partners, using innovative strategies to conserve and restore natural capital. It works through conservation and sustainable management of priority ecosystems, environmental education and strategic communication, community sustainable development, environmental policy, and information management, relying on partnerships with businesses, civil society, communities, and government at the local and federal level.

The organization runs national programs on private lands conservation, conservation information centers, wetlands, and birds, and pursues projects such as reforestation, water harvesting, mangrove restoration, and protection of the monarch butterfly.
