Bat Conservation Trust

Description

The Bat Conservation Trust is a British charity dedicated to the conservation of bats and their habitats.

It runs the National Bat Helpline, giving advice to householders, the public and building and planning professionals on issues relating to bats, and connecting callers with local bat carers and volunteers. It coordinates the National Bat Monitoring Programme, a partnership with government conservation bodies that runs annual surveys carried out by volunteers across the UK, feeding into national biodiversity reporting. It also runs a Bat Crime Investigations Project to record bat-related crime and support enforcement of legal protections for bats.

The Trust supports a network of more than 80 local bat groups made up of volunteers who carry out surveys, monitoring, bat walks and rehabilitation. It provides training and conferences for volunteers and professionals, publishes member magazines and guidance, and campaigns on biodiversity policy, planning and land use as they affect bats.

The Bat Conservation Trust was founded in 1991 and works across the UK, including Wales and Scotland.
