New Zealand Plant Conservation Network

Description

The New Zealand Plant Conservation Network is a non-governmental organisation that works to protect and restore New Zealand’s native plant life.

It was founded in 2003 to help carry out the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy and the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, and it now has more than 1,000 members worldwide. Members include botanists, universities, government staff, landowners and members of the public.

The Network links people interested in plant conservation with accurate, accessible information, and fosters plant identification and conservation skills. It runs a website covering all indigenous and naturalised plants in New Zealand, and it has set up a national seed bank for threatened species. It also runs a plant conservation training programme for Maori.

The Network publishes a monthly newsletter called Trilepidea, plant checklists, and holds biennial conferences that bring together people working in plant conservation. It gives annual plant conservation awards. Its work is based in New Zealand.
