Iran Human Rights Documentation Center

Description

The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, or IHRDC, is an independent non-profit organization that documents human rights abuses in Iran.

It was founded in 2004 by human rights scholars and lawyers, and is based in New Haven, Connecticut, with an additional office in Washington, DC. Its mission is to build a comprehensive and objective historical record of the human rights situation in Iran, and to use that record to establish responsibility for patterns of abuse. It makes this record available in a public archive for research and education.

The organization works to promote accountability, respect for human rights and the rule of law in Iran. It provides Iranians with human rights reports, data on past and present violations, and information about international human rights standards such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It aims to encourage informed dialogue on Iran’s human rights situation among scholars and the public, both inside Iran and abroad.

It publishes witness statements, methodology reports and translations of international standards, such as the Berkeley Protocol, and maintains an ongoing data hub of its research.
