International Crisis Group

Description

International Crisis Group is an independent non-profit organization that works to prevent wars and shape policies for a more peaceful world. It sounds the alarm about looming conflicts, builds support for good governance and inclusive politics, and engages directly with conflict actors to encourage action for peace. It was founded in 1995, in response to the conflicts in Somalia, Rwanda and Bosnia. It is headquartered in Brussels, with advocacy offices in Washington DC, New York and London.

The organization operates as a think tank and conflict-analysis body, publishing research and policy advice used by governments, policymakers and academics. Its monthly CrisisWatch bulletin tracks conflicts worldwide, flagging risks of escalation and opportunities to build peace. Its work relies on a permanent field presence in the countries and regions it covers. Regional programs follow more than seventy actual and potential conflicts across Africa, Asia, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa, and the United States.

Crisis Group’s staff come from backgrounds including academia, civil society, diplomacy and media, and work alongside a board of trustees. The organization is led by a president and chief executive officer, supported by an executive vice president. Its reports and recommendations are used by governments, international organizations and other actors seeking to resolve conflicts peacefully.
