Institute for War and Peace Reporting

Description

The Institute for War & Peace Reporting is a nonprofit that trains journalists and publishes reporting from conflict and post-conflict countries.

IWPR was founded in 1991, originally as a newsletter called Yugofax covering the Balkans, and took its current name in 1998. It works with local and citizen journalists in countries facing conflict, repression and disinformation, building their skills in investigative and human rights reporting. Its programmes cover regions including Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa.

The organisation is governed by a board and an international council drawn from journalism, diplomacy and business, supported by staff across programme, finance, editorial and development functions. Small central teams sit in London and Washington, D.C., while most personnel are national staff based in the countries where IWPR runs programmes.

IWPR is registered as a charity in the United Kingdom, as a tax-exempt not-for-profit in the United States, and as a charitable foundation in the Netherlands.
