Indonesian Forum for Environment

Description

The Indonesian Forum for Environment, known as WALHI, is an Indonesian environmental non-governmental organisation.

It was founded in 1980 and joined Friends of the Earth International in 1989. WALHI is the largest and oldest environmental advocacy organisation in Indonesia, uniting hundreds of member groups and individuals with independent offices in most of the country’s provinces.

It works on agrarian conflicts over natural resources, indigenous and peasant rights, coastal and marine issues, and deforestation, alongside cross-cutting concerns such as climate change, women and disaster risk. It campaigns against ecocide and forest and land fires, and pushes for corporate and government accountability for environmental destruction.

WALHI is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
