IDEAS For Us

Description

IDEAS For Us is an environmental action organization that develops ideas, funds projects and scales solutions to environmental problems.

It works across five pillars: energy, water, food, waste and ecology, serving communities in Florida and in nearly forty countries worldwide. Its projects include urban agriculture, school gardens, ecological restoration, renewable energy initiatives, shoreline stabilization, native landscaping, food distribution and green workforce training. It partners with neighborhoods, schools, municipalities, nonprofits and businesses to design solutions suited to each community, often growing small local initiatives into long-term programs and policy work.

The organization began in 2008 as a student-led group at the University of Central Florida, originally an acronym for Intellectual Decisions on Environmental Awareness Solutions. It became a nonprofit organization in 2011 and later gained accredited non-governmental organization status with the United Nations, holding special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and recognized observer status with the UNFCCC. It now coordinates chapters and country programs across a global network.
