Građanska alijansa

Građanska alijansa, Civic Alliance, is a non-profit organisation in Montenegro founded in 2011. Its goal is advancing, protecting and promoting human rights. It is committed to building a fair and inclusive society in which the rights of every individual are respected and protected, regardless of sex, ethnicity, religion or any other personal characteristic.

The organisation continuously monitors the work of judicial bodies and public administration at both the municipal and the national level. This is because transparency, accountability and fairness in these institutions form the foundation of a democratic society and a basic precondition for respect for human rights. This ongoing monitoring allows it to identify systemic shortcomings and propose concrete reforms, so that institutions serve citizens and act in line with international human rights standards.

Civic Alliance pays particular attention to the education of young political leaders and representatives of non-governmental organisations and media, and to advocacy for gender equality. Through non-formal education it seeks to develop competent and effective political and social activists and future decision-makers. It works toward a society in which women and men have equal rights, opportunities and access to all areas of social life. Through educational programmes and cooperation with institutions and the civil sector, it highlights the challenges women face and works to reduce gender discrimination.

It also works to reduce the stigmatisation and discrimination of marginalised groups, including the Roma and Egyptian communities, migrants and refugees. Together with partners, Civic Alliance founded Građanska kuća, the Civic House, as a place to bring together non-governmental organisations and activists working to strengthen democracy and human rights. It runs programmes including a human rights and justice programme and a School of Political Studies. It is based in Podgorica, Montenegro.
