Description

Global Landscapes Forum, or GLF, is a knowledge-led platform on sustainable and inclusive landscapes, founded in 2013.

It promotes the landscape approach, a way of combining food production, livelihoods, restoration and conservation goals at the level of a whole landscape rather than in silos. GLF connects organizations, governments, researchers, Indigenous and local communities, women and youth around five themes: restoration, finance, rights, food and livelihoods, and measuring progress. It holds events and conferences, runs the Landscape Academy for training, and shares knowledge through publications and a news platform. Its GLFx initiative supports locally led chapters carrying out landscape projects on the ground.

The GLF began in 2013 in Warsaw as a merger of two side events at the UN climate conference, and its secretariat later moved to Bonn, Germany. It is led by the Landscape Alliance, CIFOR and ICRAF, working with co-founders the UN Environment Programme and the World Bank alongside thirty-five charter member organizations. It also runs the Youth in Landscapes Initiative and the Restoration Stewards program to build young people’s leadership in landscape restoration. Through the Luxembourg-GLF Finance for Nature Platform and the GLF Investment Case events, it works to shift finance toward sustainable land use.
