Description

Fundar, Centro de Análisis e Investigación, is a plural, independent, non-profit civil society organization based in Mexico. It operates under principles of horizontal governance and transparency. It works to strengthen substantive democracy and contribute to structural changes that promote more equitable relations between people and public institutions. It envisions a just, participatory and inclusive society where human rights are effectively protected.

Its mission is to contribute to evidence-informed public policy by producing and sharing specialized knowledge, fostering critical, solutions-oriented thinking, and collaborating with civil society, communities and government actors to develop and test innovative approaches. Its work rests on a holistic understanding of human rights grounded in gender equality, citizen participation, social justice, interculturality and sustainability. It pursues change through three complementary pillars: research to generate evidence, engagement with public policy, and capacity building.

Fundar’s activities include political dialogue with decision-makers, legal strategies such as litigation and legal research in landmark Mexican cases, and strategic communication through research-based storytelling and media engagement. They include scrutiny of public budgets and spending from a human rights, gender, psychosocial and intercultural perspective, promotion of transparency and access to information as accountability tools, and tracking and analysis of the technological dimensions of public issues. Fundar shares this knowledge with other organizations and communities through peer learning and collaborative tools.

It works closely with other civil society organizations, citizen groups and movements, victims, Indigenous Peoples and communities, national and international networks, journalists, academia, public opinion leaders, and state actors such as legislators and public officials. The organization is governed by a Members Assembly with a head, secretary, treasurer, spokespersons and honorary members. It publishes audited financial statements and annual institutional reports covering more than two decades of its work, as well as a strategic plan and a manifesto for collective change.
