Description

Free the Slaves is an international non-governmental organization working to end modern slavery, forced labor, trafficking and child exploitation around the world.

It was founded in 2000, growing out of research by Kevin Bales, and began as a sister organization of Anti-Slavery International before becoming a separate entity.

The organization works in solidarity with local organizations, survivor leaders, businesses and governments across Africa, Asia, the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East and North Africa. Its work rests on four pillars: community action to prevent exploitation, policy and advocacy to strengthen laws and demand accountability, movement building among grassroots networks, and learning and impact work that shares evidence and effective practices.

It helps people access services, reclaim their rights and chart their own path to freedom, and works to strengthen legal protections and build coalitions for change. It also gives Freedom Awards to honor people and organizations fighting to end slavery.
