Amnesty International Thailand

Description

Amnesty International Thailand is a Thailand based section of the global Amnesty International movement, working to protect human rights in Thailand and worldwide. It was founded in 1993 and later registered as an association under Thai law. Its headquarters are in Bangkok, and it has more than 1,000 members across the country.

It campaigns and advocates for freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, for bringing perpetrators of rights abuses to justice, and for protecting human rights defenders and people whose rights have been violated. It also campaigns to end torture, enforced disappearance and the death penalty, and for the rights of refugees and migrant workers. Amnesty International as a whole has millions of members and supporters across more than 150 countries and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977.

Amnesty Thailand runs human rights education programmes for students, teachers, the general public and journalists, including classroom activities and public seminars. It works with government agencies and private organizations to help raise human rights standards in the country. Its decisions are made through a committee elected by its members nationwide.

The organization funds its campaigns only through donations from individual supporters and does not accept funding from government or corporate sources, to protect its independence and neutrality.
