Description

Free Press Unlimited is an international press freedom organisation that collaborates with more than 300 media partners around the world. Its mission is to ensure that independent, reliable and timely news and information remains available to everyone. This is especially true for people in countries with no or limited press freedom. The mission draws on Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

To that end it supports local media professionals and journalists worldwide through advocacy work, emergency assistance, advice, training, capacity building and awareness raising. It works with independent partners who set their own strategies and are close to their own audiences. The organisation describes its core values as independence from financial or political pressure groups, and inspiring local media professionals by sharing knowledge and ideas. Its values also include inventive problem-solving to overcome obstacles to free access to information, long-term dedication to individuals and organisations it supports, and a tailored approach that starts from the local situation, culture and capacity in each country.

It also maintains a formal equity, diversity and inclusion statement and an intersectional approach to its work with media across different contexts. Free Press Unlimited is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
