Fondazione Openpolis

Description

Fondazione Openpolis is an Italian organisation that works with data on power, politics, the economy, territories and local communities. It started in 2006 by building online tools and platforms to promote access to public information. Its first project was called Voi siete qui. This was followed by others, including Openpolitici, Openparlamento, Openmunicipio and Openbilanci, which tracked politicians, parliament, municipalities and public budgets.

In 2011 it decided that simply collecting and publishing data was not enough. It began telling the stories behind the data, first on a blog and then through its own news site, openpolis.it. In 2017 it became a foundation, to give stronger institutional grounding to its work.

Its staff turn data into news, analysis, civic mobilisation campaigns and web applications. Team members work across institutional development, data analysis, communication, administration, technology, research, marketing and fundraising. The foundation engages with journalists and is regularly cited in the media.

It takes part in national and international co-design partnerships and projects. It provides data and content services to third-sector organisations, public bodies and private organisations, drawing on data it has built up over the years and its experience in processes, platforms and technology. It also runs a membership programme that offers a direct line to its editorial team.

It occasionally opens applications for skilled and motivated people to join its staff, and it also accepts unsolicited applications.
