Follow the Money
Description
Follow the Money (FTM) is a Dutch-language investigative journalism outlet. Its articles take the form of in-depth reconstructions and analyses of political, corporate and financial affairs.
One piece reconstructs how a lobbyist for Utrecht’s UMC Utrecht hospital had undisclosed direct email contact with the Dutch ministry of health. This happened during the government’s decision on where to concentrate pediatric heart surgery. The piece shows how the hospital, the lobbyist and the ministry initially denied that contact. Another piece analyses Facebook’s proposed Libra digital currency and what it could mean for the market power of banks over money creation.
FTM organizes its reporting into named dossiers. These include De macht van medici, on the transparency of doctors and hospitals, Van wie is ons geld?, on how the monetary system is organised, and Crypto’s & blockchains, on digital currency. Its journalists specialise in particular beats, such as healthcare or financial and economic malpractice. Each article names its author and invites readers to send that journalist a tip.
Full access to FTM’s articles requires a paid account. FTM also sells its own published books, including one on cybercrime and ransomware.
