FNSI, the Federazione Nazionale della Stampa Italiana, is the national trade union of Italian journalists. It was founded in 1908 and refounded in 1943. It operates as a free trade union association under article 39 of the Italian constitution, bringing together regional press associations from across Italy.

Its principal aims are defending press freedom, safeguarding pluralism among news outlets, and protecting the moral and material rights and interests of journalists, whether employed or freelance. Its main activity is negotiating national collective labour contracts. It also provides union support to regional press associations and to editorial committees inside newsrooms.

Representatives of the main Italian trade union confederations, Cgil, Cisl, Uil and Ugl, sit on its National Council in a consultative role under a 1947 alliance pact. Governance runs through a National Congress held every four years, a National Council, a President, an Executive Committee and a Secretary General. It also has a conference of editorial committees and a council of regional association presidents.

Members can be professional journalists, freelancers, pensioners or the unemployed. They gain access to union support, legal and tax advice, training, and pension-fund offices. They also get discounted agreements with hotels, travel companies and other services.
