Enough Project

Description

The Enough Project was a nonprofit organisation that worked to end genocide and crimes against humanity in Africa’s deadliest conflict zones.

Together with its investigative partner, The Sentry, it worked against armed groups, violent kleptocratic regimes and the commercial partners that profited from corruption, crime and the trafficking of natural resources. It conducted research in conflict zones, engaged governments and the private sector on policy solutions, and ran public campaigns on peace and human rights. Its aim was to create consequences for the perpetrators and facilitators of atrocities and corruption, building leverage for peace and good governance. It focused on Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia and the Central African Republic.

Gayle Smith and John Prendergast founded the Enough Project in 2007, combining field research and advocacy methods from the International Crisis Group and the Center for American Progress. It was headquartered in Washington, D.C., with staff based across Africa, the United States and Europe. In its first decade it supported peace processes, civilian protection and accountability efforts; from 2016 it shifted its focus to the political economy of conflict and violent kleptocratic networks. That year it launched The Sentry, an investigative initiative on the financing of African conflicts.

The Enough Project is no longer operational. Its work is now continued by The Sentry, an investigative organisation pursuing new leverage for human rights, peace and anti-corruption efforts.
