Earth's Birthday Project
Description
Celebrate Planet Earth is a nonprofit environmental education organization for children, families, clubs, classrooms and schools. Its mission is to grow children who love and protect the Earth. It was founded in 1989 as Earth’s Birthday Project and rebranded under its current name in 2019. It is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The organization provides teachers with live butterflies, ladybugs and sunflower seeds so children can observe living things and learn about insect life cycles as part of school science curricula. It also runs rainforest conservation programs, in which students raise money through coin drives and other fundraising to help purchase and protect rainforest and other endangered habitat, working with partners such as The Nature Conservancy and World Land Trust. Its current conservation partner, YAKUM, works with native communities in Ecuador to plant trees in the Amazon.
Since its founding, more than 15 million school children have taken part in its butterfly, sunflower, rainforest and river conservation activities.
