Compassion in Care

Description

Compassion in Care is a care home whistleblowing charity founded by people with direct experience of abuse and institutional failure in elderly care. Its trustees and volunteers work toward one goal, to expose neglect, protect whistleblowers, and campaign for a law referred to as Edna’s Law.

The charity runs a confidential helpline for callers, staffed to keep caller, donor, and volunteer information secure, and it stores helpline data in an anonymised system. It offers a secure online upload facility so people can share confidential files and evidence safely.

Founder and trustee Eileen Chubb, who left her care job after whistleblowing, set up the charity and runs the helpline as its public spokesperson. Royalties from her books about her whistleblowing experience go to the charity.

Other trustees, Stephen Honour, Maggie Roffey, and Karis Le Winton, were drawn in through personal experience of care abuse or whistleblowing. This included the BUPA 7 case and undercover filming by BBC Panorama that led to convictions. The charity supports a related project for whistleblowers called The Whistler. It is a registered charity based in Petts Wood, Orpington.
