Climate Cardinals

Description

Climate Cardinals is a youth-led climate organization that breaks language barriers so more communities can act on climate change.

It was founded in 2020 by Sophia Kianni after she found that her relatives in Iran had little climate information in their own language. Volunteers and professional linguists translate climate information into more than 100 languages, offered free to grassroots groups and at low rates to institutions and governments. A network of youth-led local chapters runs climate education and action projects in schools, universities and communities, most of them in the Global South. A fellowship program trains young emerging leaders in running climate work.

Climate Cardinals partners with bodies such as UNICEF, CARE International, UNDP, the Smithsonian and UNESCO, and its leadership has advised United Nations, WHO and US government youth advisory groups. It is a fiscally sponsored project of Future Incubator, working toward independent nonprofit status. It is based in the United States and describes itself as one of the world’s largest youth-led climate organizations, with volunteers registered across many countries.
