Climate Action Network

Description

Climate Action Network, known as CAN, is a global network of environmental organizations fighting the climate crisis.

It brings together over 2,500 non-governmental organizations in more than 130 countries. Its work centres on five areas: putting people and climate impacts at the centre of government response, undermining the fossil fuel industry, pushing for transformative national climate action plans, building power through grassroots movements, and advocacy in multilateral processes. It coordinates this work through 18 technical working groups and acts as the civil society convener in United Nations climate negotiations and other international forums.

CAN operates through formal regional and national networks called nodes, covering regions from the Arab world and Africa to Latin America, Asia and the Pacific, plus national nodes in countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States. It was founded in 1989. It is organized as an international network with member organizations connecting through a shared community platform and an international secretariat.
