Center for Economic and Social Rights

The Center for Economic and Social Rights, CESR, is an international human rights organization working to transform the global economic system so it respects human dignity for all.

It uses research grounded in the lived realities of affected communities to build evidence on how economic structures harm people’s rights. It builds alliances and advocates to reform the policies behind these harms. Its focus areas include education, health, food, water, housing, poverty and inequality, and rights in crisis.

CESR combines legal and socioeconomic analysis to monitor, expose and hold governments accountable for violations of economic and social rights. It produces research reports, country fact sheets and submissions to United Nations bodies, and works with local partners and coalitions in each place it operates. It has worked on projects in countries including Guatemala and the United States, and more broadly across some thirty countries.

The organization was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in New York. It operates internationally with an international board of directors.
