Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales

Description

The Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales is a charity that works to protect and enhance the landscapes and environment of rural Wales.

It was founded in 1928, originally as the Council for the Preservation of Rural Wales, and took its current name in 1991. The charity is organised through a National Executive Committee and around 14 regional branches across Wales, run largely by volunteers, who campaign on local planning and development issues. A Director engages with the Welsh Government and other national bodies and coordinates nationwide campaigns.

Its work covers planning, energy infrastructure, rivers, biodiversity, and the Welsh language and culture as part of the countryside. It has campaigned on issues such as wind farm and pylon development in mid Wales, power stations, and road schemes affecting the landscape. It publishes Rural Wales magazine three times a year and has run village enhancement awards through its branches.
