Bush Heritage Australia

Description

Bush Heritage Australia is a non-profit conservation organisation that protects ecosystems and wildlife across Australia.

It buys land of high conservation value from private owners and manages it as wildlife reserves in perpetuity. It also partners with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups on Healthy Country Plans and works with farmers on conservation across agricultural land. Its work includes habitat restoration, control of introduced predators and herbivores, fire management and long-term ecological monitoring.

The organisation was founded in 1990 by Bob Brown, who bought forested land in Tasmania to stop it being logged. It has since grown to manage dozens of reserves and partnership areas covering millions of hectares across the country. It is run by an independent board with paid staff and many volunteers, and is funded by donations from supporters.
