Environmental Organizations Germany

Description

Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland, known as BUND, is a German environmental and nature conservation association.

It was founded in 1975 in the town of Marktheidenfeld and is a member of the international network Friends of the Earth, using the subtitle Friends of the Earth Germany. It is organized as a membership association with democratic decision-making at every level, from local groups up to the federal board. It is independent of political parties and business and is funded mainly by membership fees and donations.

BUND works on ecological farming and healthy food, climate protection and the expansion of renewable energy, and the protection of endangered species, forests and water. It is one of the largest environmental associations in Germany, supported by more than 676,000 members and backed by over 2,000 volunteer local groups working on issues in their own regions. Its work ranges from managing conservation land to campaigning against industrial livestock farming and running public awareness campaigns.

It also has a youth organization, BUNDjugend, and publishes background reports, studies and an annual research prize for sustainable development.
