Bird Protection Quebec
Description
Bird Protection Quebec is a member-run charitable organization dedicated to bird conservation in Quebec, Canada.
Founded in Montreal in 1917 as the Province of Quebec Society for the Protection of Birds, it is the oldest organization of birders in the province. Its mission is to protect birds and bird habitat while fostering appreciation of them through conservation, observation, research and education. Almost all of its work is carried out by volunteers, funded through donations, membership fees and investment income.
The organization owns or co-owns and manages bird sanctuaries covering more than a thousand acres across Quebec. It awards yearly grants of between $75,000 and $150,000 to support ornithological research, and it carries out non-partisan advocacy for the environment and conservation. It also organizes weekly guided field trips, monthly lectures on avian topics, and participatory science projects, and it keeps a repository of information and data on birds and their habitats.
Bird Protection Quebec is a member of QuebecOiseaux and works with other national and provincial organizations to preserve wildlife habitat.
