Australian Conservation Foundation

Description

The Australian Conservation Foundation, known as ACF, is Australia’s national environment organisation. It was founded in 1965 to bring a more coordinated approach to conservation in the country. It works to protect Australian wildlife, rivers, reefs and bushland through advocacy, campaigning and evidence-based research.

ACF influences governments and businesses to protect nature and holds decision-makers accountable. It has campaigned for the protection of the Great Barrier Reef, winning its listing as a marine park and later as a World Heritage site, and it worked to protect Kakadu National Park and to return water to the Murray-Darling river system. It has also run investigations into environmental harms and pursued climate litigation over projects that threaten the reef.

The organisation is powered by a community of more than half a million supporters, including donors, volunteers and community groups, and it says it is independent, non-partisan and funded by donations. It works alongside Traditional Owners and Indigenous communities on land and environmental issues. ACF is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, with additional offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.
