Association for Environment Conscious Building

Description

The Association for Environment Conscious Building is a UK network of sustainable building professionals working to reduce the environmental impact of construction.

Its members include contractors, tradespeople, self-builders, architects, designers, engineers, manufacturers, housing associations, local authorities and academics. The organisation promotes and shares best practice in sustainable design and construction, and runs training through its CarbonLite Training Centre. It has focused heavily on cutting carbon emissions from buildings, developing low-energy building standards based on the German Passivhaus approach and creating the Passivhaus Trust as a subsidiary.

It maintains a Low Energy Buildings Database showing the real-world performance of low-carbon projects, and publishes reports, a quarterly magazine and other resources on sustainable building. It is run for and by its members and describes itself as an independent, not-for-profit organisation.

The AECB was founded in 1989 and is based in the United Kingdom, with a network of more than 3,000 members.
