Al-Haq

Description

Al-Haq is an independent Palestinian human rights organization based in Ramallah, in the West Bank. It works to promote and defend the human rights of the Palestinian people and to strengthen respect for international human rights and humanitarian law. It also seeks to hold perpetrators of violations accountable, whatever their nationality. Al-Haq was founded in 1979 by a group of Palestinian lawyers.

The organization monitors and documents human rights violations linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and publishes fieldwork reports, monthly and annual reports, position papers and detailed legal studies. A Forensic Architecture Investigation Unit conducts its own investigations into specific incidents. Al-Haq pursues advocacy and litigation before bodies such as the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the United Nations and the European Union, and takes up cases on corporate accountability and universal jurisdiction. Its work covers settlements and annexation, Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem, and civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.

Al-Haq is affiliated with the International Commission of Jurists and belongs to the International Federation for Human Rights, the Habitat International Coalition and the World Organisation Against Torture. It also sits on EuroMed Rights’ executive committee and the steering committee of the Palestinian NGOs Network. It has held special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2000.
