Environmental Organizations United States

Description

American Bird Conservancy is an international nonprofit membership organization dedicated to conserving wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas.

It works to prevent extinctions, reverse population declines, reduce threats to birds and build the wider bird conservation movement. Its approach is guided by science and carried out with hundreds of partners across the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. It is the second BirdLife International partner in the United States and cooperates with groups such as Partners in Flight and the North American Bird Conservation Initiative.

In Latin America it works with local partners to purchase and protect land for endangered bird habitats, including a reserve created for the Cerulean Warbler in Colombia. In the United States it has pushed to limit mountaintop mining and unsuitable wind energy siting, and it runs the Cats Indoors campaign encouraging owners to keep cats from preying on birds. American Bird Conservancy was founded in 1994 and has grown from a handful of staff to a team of more than 150.
