African Conservation Foundation

Description

African Conservation Foundation is a charity protecting Africa’s endangered wildlife and restoring ecosystems.

It was established in 1999 and registered in 2001. It works across sub-Saharan Africa, with staff and partners in countries including Cameroon, DR Congo and Ethiopia. It pioneers community-led, people-driven conservation, empowering local organisations, communities and conservationists to protect their natural heritage.

Its work covers ecosystem restoration, great apes conservation, wildlife conservation and landscape approaches. It trains conservation professionals and community rangers, runs tree planting and reforestation programmes, and supports ecotourism and regenerative agriculture as sustainable livelihoods. It also maintains an Africa-wide network connecting conservationists and organisations for knowledge exchange and capacity building.

The organisation combines grassroots action, capacity building and nature-based solutions to address environmental challenges while supporting vulnerable communities. Its programmes aim to restore ecological corridors and habitats, mitigate climate change and protect endangered species such as the Cross River gorilla. It contributes to international goals including the Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Climate Agreement.
