U.S. Campaign for Burma

The U.S. Campaign for Burma, USCB, is a United States-based nonprofit that campaigns for freedom, democracy and human rights in Burma. It evolved out of the Free Burma Coalition, and its founders include Jack Healey, Jeremy Woodrum and Dan Beeton. USCB gained its own nonprofit status in 2008 and is organized as a tax-exempt 501(c)3.

Its mission is to build a broad coalition of grassroots and institutional support for freedom in Burma. USCB pursues this through public education, leadership development, conferences and advocacy campaigns at local, national and international levels. It works to empower both American supporters and Burmese dissidents in exile.

The organization has pushed to strengthen the position of Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League for Democracy, called for international intervention in Burma, and worked to inform grassroots citizens, international media and policymakers about the country’s political, social and economic crisis. Its staff and board include advocates with direct experience of Burma’s ethnic conflicts, including members of the Karen and Rohingya communities, who have worked on human rights documentation, refugee resettlement and policy advocacy.
