SOS Racisme

Description

SOS Racisme is a French anti-racist association, best known by its slogan “Touche pas à mon pote”. It was founded in Paris in October 1984, growing out of youth mobilizations for equal rights and against the rise of the far right. Its goal is to fight racism, antisemitism and all forms of discrimination. For more than four decades it has fought for a fairer, more equal and inclusive society.

The association works through three main levers: legal action, popular education and citizen mobilization. It is often the plaintiff in discrimination court cases and supports immigrants and racial minorities facing discrimination. It also uses testing, comparing matched pairs of job or housing applicants of different origins, to expose racial double standards.

SOS Racisme relies on a network of volunteers and local committees active across France to promote equality and shared civic values. It is part of a wider international movement of anti-racist organizations, with counterpart chapters in several other European countries.
