Ocean Conservation Namibia

Description

Ocean Conservation Namibia is a nonprofit that rescues Cape fur seals entangled in marine debris along the Namibian coast.

Naude and Katja Dreyer founded it in 2020 to protect marine wildlife and raise awareness of ocean and plastic pollution. Its team carries out daily rescues at remote sites such as Pelican Point, Cape Cross, Torra Bay and Möwe Bay in the Skeleton Coast National Park, and at Sandwich Harbour. Between 2020 and 2025 the team freed more than 5,000 seals from entanglements.

Beyond direct rescue work, the organization runs public awareness campaigns and education programs to encourage people to change habits that harm the ocean. It shares its rescue stories through video, reaching a large online following worldwide. The Ocean Conservation Namibia Trust is a registered charitable trust under Namibian law, and it also operates in the United States as Ocean Conservation International, a registered nonprofit. It relies entirely on private donations and merchandise sales, receiving no government funding.
