Environmental Organizations Norway

Description

Nature and Youth, Natur og Ungdom in Norwegian and also known as Young Friends of the Earth Norway, is Norway’s only environmentalist youth organization.

It has thousands of members in local groups across the country working on environmental issues, with a central board and administration based in Oslo. Its main issues include petroleum, public transport, energy and nature conservation. It is the youth branch of the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature and a member of Friends of the Earth International, and it publishes the magazine Putsj.

It was founded in 1967 through the merger of two youth nature groups. Over the following decades it campaigned against nuclear power, against industrial pollution, against Norwegian EU membership and against opening the Barents Sea to petroleum production, including through civil disobedience actions.
