International Tibet Network

Description

International Tibet Network is a global coalition of Tibet-related non-governmental organisations working for freedom in Tibet.

It was founded in 2000 at the Third International Tibet Support Group Conference in Berlin. Its purpose is to maximise the effectiveness of the worldwide Tibet movement by building the capacity of individual member groups and the movement as a whole. It develops collaborative, coordinated strategic campaigns, offers regional and local support and advice, and encourages cooperation among Tibet-related organisations.

The Network regards Tibet as an occupied country and recognises the Tibetan Government in Exile as the sole legitimate government of the Tibetan people, while operating independently of it. It is committed to non-violence as a founding principle. A Secretariat handles day-to-day operations, overseen by an elected global Steering Committee whose members represent Tibet groups on all six continents.

Its work includes coordination through regular meetings and information exchange, campaign strategies carried out via working groups and task forces, and capacity building through training in fundraising, campaign planning and communication skills.
