Description

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, ICIMOD, is an intergovernmental knowledge and learning centre for the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.

It works on behalf of the people of eight regional member countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. Its mission is to help improve livelihoods, protect mountain environments and cultures, and strengthen regional cooperation for conservation and sustainable mountain development. It carries out research, produces data, and shares knowledge to make mountain communities more resilient to change.

Its work spans hands-on research, piloting of solutions, policy implementation with governments, and advocacy on the global stage, organized around three core aims: enhancing livelihoods, sustaining natural resources, and valuing culture. It is governed by a Board of Governors with one representative from each regional member country. The centre was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Kathmandu, Nepal.
