International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists

Description

The International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists is a membership body of lawyers, judges and jurists that works to advance human rights and the rule of law.

It was founded in 1969 by figures including Supreme Court justices Haim Cohn of Israel and Arthur Goldberg of the United States, and Nobel laureate Rene Cassin of France. Its members are lawyers, judges, judicial officers and academic jurists in more than fifty countries, and membership is open to jurists of all creeds who share its aims. The Association focuses on preventing and holding people accountable for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, and on combating antisemitism, racism, xenophobia and Holocaust denial.

It holds ECOSOC special consultative status at the United Nations, which lets it take part in the work of UN bodies including the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The Association also runs a Legal Center for Combating Antisemitism and publishes Justice Magazine, distributed to lawyers and jurists worldwide.

The organization is based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
