Global Green Growth Institute

Description

The Global Green Growth Institute, GGGI, is a treaty-based intergovernmental organization that promotes green growth.

It supports and promotes strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies, integrating economic progress with environmental sustainability. GGGI began as a think tank in 2010 and became an international treaty-based organization in 2012 at the Rio+20 Conference. Its membership has grown from 18 founding signatories to over 50 members and 29 partner states.

It works as an in-country advisor and strategic development partner embedded in member and partner governments. It provides policy advice and technical support for green growth plans, policies and regulations, helps mobilize green investment, and implements green growth projects. It also builds national, regional and sub-national capacities and knowledge.

Its work centers on themes such as energy transitions, resilient landscapes and oceans, sustainable agri-food systems, and green, resilient cities and infrastructure. GGGI is governed by an Assembly of member countries and a Council responsible for strategy, budget and membership. It is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.
