Fondation Pacifique

Description

Fondation Pacifique is a Swiss non-profit foundation working to protect the oceans.

Its work centres on Fleur de Passion, a sailing ship that circumnavigates the world visiting marine regions identified as globally important and threatened. The foundation focuses on three objectives: contributing to scientific research by giving researchers access to the vessel, raising public awareness of marine conservation through communication and education, and letting members and volunteers take part in expeditions as crew.

It partners with scientific, conservation, eco-tourism and media organisations, contributing resources and expertise to each partner’s work while helping communicate ocean conservation issues more widely. Its origins trace back to the Association Pacifique and the Association Antinea, both founded in Geneva around 2000, which merged their projects in 2006 to form the Antinea Foundation, established under Swiss law in 2007 and renamed Fondation Pacifique in 2014.

Past projects include the Changing Oceans Expedition, launched in 2008 with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and the Ocean Mapping Expedition, which retraced the route of Ferdinand Magellan between 2015 and 2019.
