European Roma Rights Centre

Description

The European Roma Rights Centre, known as ERRC, is a Roma-led international public interest law organization. It works to combat anti-Romani racism and human rights abuses against Roma people. It was created in 1996 in Budapest, Hungary, and is now based in Brussels, Belgium.

ERRC combines strategic litigation, research and policy development, advocacy and human rights education. It represents Romani litigants directly and brings submissions to the European Court of Human Rights and United Nations treaty bodies. It has taken over a thousand cases and typically has more than 150 pending at any time.

The organization publishes research on issues affecting Romani communities and reports to UN bodies such as the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It trains Romani activists, including through its annual Roma Rights Summer School. It is a member of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights and holds consultative status with the Council of Europe and the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
