Equality Now

Description

Equality Now is a worldwide human rights organisation working to end violence and discrimination against women and girls.

It pursues legal and systemic change, campaigning to reform discriminatory laws and end sexual violence, sexual exploitation and other harmful practices. It works alongside local, national and regional partners, building coalitions to demand, shape and steer the changes needed. Equality Now says legal equality is a human right that helps build more stable and prosperous societies for everyone.

Equality Now was founded in 1992 by human rights lawyers Jessica Neuwirth, Navi Pillay and Feryal Gharahi, who set out to bring women’s equality into the field of human rights. Since then it says it has helped reform 140 discriminatory laws worldwide. It has registered offices in Kenya, the United Kingdom and the United States, and works with thousands of individuals and partner organisations across dozens of countries.

Its vision is a world where all women and girls have equal rights under the law and full enjoyment of their human rights. Its mission is to achieve the legal and systemic change needed to address violence and discrimination against women and girls everywhere.
