Devatop Centre for Africa Development

Description

Devatop Centre for Africa Development is a youth-led human rights and anti-human trafficking organization based in Nigeria. It works to combat human trafficking, gender-based violence and irregular migration, and to support survivor and at-risk youth. The organization is registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission.

Founded in 2014, growing out of a 2013 community development project by Joseph Osuigwe Chidiebere, it has partnered with bodies such as Nigeria’s National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. It says it has reached over a million people through training, advocacy, sensitization and community projects.

Its work spans advocacy, training, research, victim support and empowerment, and policy engagement on human trafficking and related rights abuses. Through its TALKAM programme, it uses a mobile application, a data portal, and radio and television broadcasts to encourage reporting of trafficking and gender-based violence. It also runs campaigns against female genital mutilation and provides educational support to vulnerable and displaced children in Nigeria.
