Cultural Survival

Description

Cultural Survival is an Indigenous-led nonprofit organization that advocates for Indigenous Peoples’ rights and supports their self-determination, cultures and political resilience.

It partners with Indigenous communities in more than 70 countries across six continents, grounding its work in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and observer status at UN climate and biodiversity conventions, where it advocates for Indigenous rights alongside partner communities.

Its programs combine small grantmaking through funds such as the Keepers of the Earth Fund and the Indigenous Community Media Fund, capacity building through fellowships and training, and communications through Cultural Survival Quarterly magazine and Indigenous Rights Radio. It also hosts Cultural Survival Bazaars, events where Indigenous artisans sell crafts and art. Staff and board members are majority Indigenous.

Cultural Survival was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States.
