Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines

CHRP-UK, the Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines, is a volunteer-run network based in the United Kingdom. It began in 2006 after human rights abuses in the Philippines increased sharply. Its work focuses on exposing and challenging state-backed human rights violations in the country.

The network works alongside activists, trade unionists, journalists and communities who face political repression and violence under one Philippine government after another. It supports human rights defenders through advocacy, public awareness and international solidarity campaigns. It also engages civil society groups and policymakers in the UK to press for justice and accountability.

It draws attention to the large number of extrajudicial political killings in the Philippines and to the country’s high rate of journalist murders. CHRP-UK has backing from the British Trades Union Congress, Amnesty International and various universities, with especially close ties to the School of Oriental and African Studies. It is run entirely by volunteers and has support from cross-party members of the House of Lords and House of Commons.
