Cambodian Center for Human Rights

Description

The Cambodian Center for Human Rights is a non-partisan, independent non-governmental organization that promotes and protects democracy and human rights in Cambodia.

It was founded in November 2002 and is based in Phnom Penh. It focuses mainly on civil and political rights, working through research, legal analysis, advocacy and public education. It also empowers communities and activists to claim and defend their own rights, and was the first Cambodian NGO to run public forums across the country.

Its thematic work covers protection of fundamental freedoms such as assembly, association and expression, judicial and legislative reform, and business and human rights. It supports land rights activists facing eviction and abuse, and runs a programme defending the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people. It also protects human rights defenders under threat, trains activists in digital rights and the use of information technology, and works on human rights education.

The organization is governed by a board of directors and managed day to day by an executive committee. It cooperates with regional and international networks including the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, the World Organization Against Torture and the Southeast Asia Press Alliance.
