Association for Social Research and Communications

UDIK, the Association for Social Research and Communications, is a Bosnian non-governmental organization based in Sarajevo. It was founded in 2013 by Edvin Kanka Ćudić. UDIK gathers facts, documents and data on genocide, war crimes and human rights violations committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the former Yugoslavia.

The organization helps post-Yugoslav societies establish the rule of law and confront the legacy of mass human rights violations. It runs a transitional justice programme built around three areas: documenting abuses, pushing for justice and institutional reform, and memorialization of victims. UDIK also promotes human rights and encourages young people to take part in peace activism and civic life.

UDIK publishes yearly research on war crimes and massacres committed between 1992 and 1995 across Bosnia and Herzegovina, and keeps a central register of memorials to victims of the Yugoslav wars, covering thousands of monuments in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro. It organizes public commemorations for victims of the wars, known as the Living Monument, in cities across Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia. The group also studies controversial memorials built after 1991 that glorify fascism and wartime figures.

UDIK has supported women’s rights and LGBT rights, and has spoken up for marginalized communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including LGBT and Roma people. Its slogan, Nationalism kills, has become a widely recognized symbol of antifascist activism across the former Yugoslavia.
